Benefits of SABS™ Construction


The simplicity of the SABS™ building system and lightweight materials allows for reduced construction time for fast completion. Ease of construction of the foam panel system increases safety and reduces injury.


At the core of the SABSsystem is EPS foam, which is 94% air. EPS foam has a proven track record as a reliable insulator and has been used for many years to provide R-values up to 120. SABS – GFRC Component is also made from materials available around the world, consisting of sand, cement and water. The balances of the proprietary materials are nontoxic and the EPS foam is 99% recyclable.


SABS™ construction represents the very finest in green building and environmentally friendly alternative building methods. Energy savings makes it less dependent on fossil fuels and reduces the need for wood, helping to save the rain forests from being depleted.


Foam paneling can be easily shaped and manipulated to any number of unique designs. A combination of structural foam paneling and non-structural paneling can provide the flexibility to implement and build as desired.

This is park equipment made by SCA in Phoenix for a park in L.A. This was a very unique shaped object. It was first drafted in 3D and engineered. To produce this shape out of EPS it was first dissected into layers. After the rough shape was completed to get the curvature of the opening, Strata projected the shape of the holes over the shell. In the end, this odd object was built to exact engineering specifications.


SABS™ construction inhibits energy loss in the winter and summer, making the structure energy efficient and more airtight than stud framing or concrete walls. Walls with varied foam thickness are inherently insulated with R40 to R60 insulation value, reducing energy consumption by 50-80% for wall sections. Thicker roof sections are insulated with R80 to R100.


SABS™ structures are hurricane resistance-tested to withstand CAT 5 hurricane level winds. The GFRC coating makes structures monolithic and replaces fasteners and nails and strengthens joints and elements.


SABS™ construction is resistant to salt sea spray and damaging wave action erosion.


SABS™ structures have the best earthquake rating. Safety factor is 3 times California’s worst earthquake to date. (See Earthquake Test Videos)


SABS™ construction eliminates the factor of termite damage associated with wood material construction. EPS technology is implemented from the foundation to the roof of the structure; termite resistant foam is approved for direct ground contact and burial.

Termites are a serious problem throughout Hawaii with costs to Hawaii residents estimated to exceed $100 million annually to control and repair termite damage. (Report by the University of Hawaii)


SABS™ construction is rust proof with no metal or exposed oxidizing building material involved.


EPS foam panels are fire retardant and passes Class A certification in all areas to include: Intermittent Flame, Burning Brand Test, Spread of Flame Test, and Smoke Test. (See Fire test Video)


Water does not penetrate the GFRC structural coating. SABS™ construction is not susceptible to leaks and water damage like conventional building materials. For added protection, weather sealant on the roof is used to enhance water and energy reflection.


Moisture sealed within wall cavities of traditional framing lumber is high in water content and is a prime location for mold and mildew growth. SABS™ walls, with its solid EPS core and GFRC coating, resists mold growth and internal wall cavity moisture issues.

Noises and sounds are dampened within the structure. High insulation values combined with structural coating make the walls virtually impenetrable.


Since the entire structure is sealed by the GFRC coating, it is an excellent barrier to insects and burrowing rodents.


Roof mounted apparatus have a more durable and permanent base. Roof support offers structural stability and protection from fallen debris.
